Sound Bath Therapy at Work: What It Is and Why Wellbeing Teams Are Booking It

sound bath therapy at work

Workplace stress is not going away. HR and wellbeing teams are under pressure to offer support that people will actually use, not another webinar that sits unwatched in the inbox. That is why sound bath therapy has become one of the most requested wellbeing sessions in London offices.

This guide explains what sound bath therapy is, what the evidence says, and how to bring it to your workplace.

What is sound bath therapy?

Sound bath therapy is a guided relaxation practice where people lie down and are "bathed" in sound from instruments such as singing bowls, gongs and chimes. The slow, layered tones help the body and mind settle into a calmer state. It is a form of sound meditation, but it asks very little of participants. There is nothing to learn and no right way to do it. You simply listen.

In a corporate setting, a session usually lasts around an hour. Ours starts with a short introduction and guided breathwork, followed by 45 minutes of live sound from a concert harp, Himalayan singing bowls, a Tibetan gong and gentle percussion.

What are the benefits of sound bath therapy for employees?

People commonly report these effects after a session:

  • Stress relief. Many people feel noticeably calmer and lighter afterwards.

  • A real mental break. Lying still with eyes closed gives people a rare pause from screens and notifications.

  • Better focus. A rested mind often returns to work clearer and more productive.

  • Better mood. Participants often describe feeling more positive and less tense.

  • Shared calm. Relaxing together builds a quiet sense of connection across a team.

Does sound bath therapy actually work?

Research on sound bath therapy is still at an early stage, and it is worth being honest about that. Small studies have found encouraging results. One observational study of singing bowl meditation, published in 2017, found that participants reported less tension, anger and fatigue afterwards. Larger trials are still needed.

What we see in practice is consistent. Teams arrive tense and leave calm, and many tell us it is the most relaxed they have felt at work. For a deeper look at why sound affects us, read our article on the science behind sound bath treatments.

Sound bath therapy is a wellbeing activity, not a medical treatment. It works best alongside your wider mental health support, such as your employee assistance programme and mental health first aiders.

Who is sound bath therapy suitable for?

It suits almost everyone, regardless of age or fitness. There is no physical exertion, no special clothing and no social pressure, which makes it a strong choice for introverts and neurodivergent colleagues. Anyone who prefers not to lie down can sit in a chair. We do recommend that pregnant employees sit this one out.

How to bring sound bath therapy into your workplace

You need very little. A meeting room, breakout area or event space with enough floor for mats is all it takes. We bring the instruments, yoga mats, blankets and eye masks, and we set up and pack down around your team.

Popular times to book include Mental Health Awareness Week in May, Stress Awareness Month in April, and the January wellbeing reset. Some teams also run a sound bath as part of a wider sound bath for a wellbeing day.

How many employees can attend?

Our sessions welcome up to 25 people. For bigger teams, we run back-to-back sessions on the same day.
